Survive The Swarm Beginner Guide: Your First Run, Step by Step
Learn the core survival loop of Survive The Swarm, start your first solo Normal-mode run, dodge the early threats, and grab free Coins and Essence with reported codes.
In one run of Survive The Swarm, your goal is simple: stay alive against ever-growing swarms of enemies while collecting the gems they drop. Gems fill your XP bar, XP triggers level-ups, and each level-up offers a choice of upgrade cards that strengthen your weapons or stats. Mid-run, your job really is just to "collect as many gems as we can" and keep scaling through the waves.
Entering and acting in your first run
Based on observed gameplay of a first solo run:
- Launch Survive The Swarm on Roblox. From the lobby, choose to play solo — the observed run selected "one player normal mode." Some characters and weapons in the lobby are locked behind Robux or earnable currency, but the default path is playable without paying.
- Enter the arena in third-person view (there is no first-person option in the observed footage). Your character auto-attacks with the equipped weapon, such as the starting sword.
- Survive by movement: dodge and weave around enemies rather than standing still. A dodge/roll move lets you cross space quickly and escape packs.
- Kill enemies and collect the gems they drop to fill your XP bar. On each level-up, a card-selection screen appears with holographic upgrade cards — pick a weapon tier upgrade (e.g., sword +1) or a stat card (damage, attack speed, crit chance, regen).
- Watch for threats: red dots are enemy bullets, gun-wielding enemies deal heavy damage, and dragonflies perform dashing attacks. Avoiding these often matters more than chasing kills.
- A large spider-type boss appears around mid-run; it can be kited and damaged from range, and it may split into smaller spiders.
- If you die, the game offers paid revive and reward-doubling prompts. Declining them simply ends the run and pays out the Coins you earned.
Exact key bindings and tutorial prompts aren't documented here, so check the in-game prompts on your first launch.
Early enemies to recognize
- Basic swarm bugs — standard melee fodder; easy to cut down while collecting gems.
- Gun enemies — they shoot projectiles (the small red dots) and "will actually destroy you" if ignored. Keep moving.
- Dragonflies — dashing attacks; described as the worst early enemies for draining HP.
- Grasshoppers — high-damage enemies hitting for roughly 10 damage per hit. Keep your distance.
- Spider-type bosses — appear mid-run, fire dart projectiles, and split into small spiders when damaged.
Equipment and currencies at a glance
Between runs, progress is driven by two currencies. Coins cover general shop purchases and stat upgrades that persist across runs. Essence is spent on eggs that hatch into pets granting permanent buffs (extra damage, faster attack speed, added knockback) and on unlocking new classes, each with its own weapon set and special ability. In the lobby weapon shop, roughly half the weapons were observed as available and half locked behind Robux or earnable currency — a first run proceeds fine with the default loadout while you accumulate currency.
Free head start: reported codes (September 2026)
Third-party reports from September 2026 list active codes that grant free Coins and Essence. Codes are redeemed inside the in-game Store — not through a separate website — and may expire without warning, so treat these as reported, not guaranteed:
| Code | Reported reward |
|---|---|
| CLASSES | 25 Essence and roughly 308,250 Coins |
| LAUNCH | 25 Essence and roughly 15,410 Coins |
| GEAR | Reported expired by some guides; lists disagree |
To redeem:
- Run Survive The Swarm on Roblox and finish the tutorial.
- Click the STORE icon on the right side of your screen.
- Scroll down until you find the Enter code section.
- Paste your code exactly as written and avoid extra spaces. Guides disagree on whether the field is case-sensitive, so preserve the capitalization shown.
- Hit REDEEM to receive your free rewards.
Note: a codes article floating around also mixes in codes from a different game (DECORATIONS, KRAKEN, ADMIRALS, DIAMONDZ belong to Navy War). Only codes confirmed for Survive The Swarm will work here — don't redeem cross-game strings.
What to learn next
That's the whole first-run loop: pick a mode, dodge, collect gems, level up, pick cards. Long-term map milestones, group play, and the survival task changes that happen after the swarm stage (such as portal-related objectives) are separate topics — once your first run is under your belt, look for a dedicated campaign or post-swarm survival guide rather than expecting this overview to cover them.
Now go attempt a run — your first death is just currency.
